Franklin Roosevelts Signed Official Declaration Franklin Roosevelts Signed Official Declaration of C
Franklin Roosevelts Signed Official Declaration of Candidacy Form for his 1936 Presidential Re-election Run. Notarized and dated April 11th, 1936, this is accomplished on a printed form entitled "Candidates Certificate of Government / Election Form No. 1." which was originally intended for use in declaring for the West Virginia Primary. However, this document is clearly not for that purpose. "State of West Virginia" has been crossed out in type at the top, and "District of Columbia" typed in its place. FDR certifies that he is a "legally qualified voter" who is "eligible to hold the said office", "affiliated with said (Democratic Party), " and "a candidate for said office in good faith." Where he fills in his address the state of residency was printed on the form as West Virginia, but again this has been crossed out and "New York" typed above. Clearly this unusual document was executed for some official purpose because it was notarized, but it seems quite odd that a West Virginian form would be used. Possibly, there was a deadline to fill, and this was the only form at hand. In any case, a unique and historic FDR relic, boldly signed in black fountain pen and in extra fine condition but for a minor light water stain at the lower left hand corner, 8.5"x11".
