Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 14.75 x 18, July 24, 1856. President Pierce appoints Andrew W. Johnson as “a Lieutenant in the Navy.” Crisply signed at the conclusion by President Pierce and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy James C. Dobbin. The orange seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. In fine condition, with paper loss to the upper left corner, and specks of paper loss along intersecting folds.
