Franklin, KY - $5 Original Fr. 399 The First NB Ch. # 1760
This is another incredible note for which the term "rare' is simply inadequate. This is the only note extant from a bank which opened in 1871 and closed in 1879, issuing First Charter examples only. By 1910, only a miniscule $575 remained outstanding. This was one of Glenn Martin's real treasures, and a note in which he took justifiable pride in owning. Bill Gale obtained it when Glenn's collection was sold, and it now makes only its second ever appearance at public sale. The market now has a much better understanding of just how important the combination of bank rarity, town desirability, and high grade is to value, and we believe that notes like this, which are both beautiful and unique for both bank and town, are items which have a virtually unlimited potential for future appreciation. Gorgeous Extremely Fine, a trophy note worth whatever it costs to bring it home tonight.
