Bank of New York Company check, 8.25 x 3, filled out and signed by Roosevelt, “Georgia Warm Springs Foundation Patients Aid Fund, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Pres.,” made payable to E. T. Curtis, Manager, for $334.01, November 30, 1927. Wonderfully archivally double cloth matted with a presidential portrait and framed to an overall size of 16 x 20. In very good condition, with expected stamps and cancellation holes, show-through from an endorsement and stamp on the reverse, and smudging to a few of the numerals.

A year before sending this payment, the future president purchased a Georgia resort and established the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in the hope of finding a cure for, or at least treatment of, his paralysis. To run the operation, Egbert T. Curtis was named manager of the Warm Springs Foundation. However, FDR still carefully oversaw every detail of Warm Springs, and guaranteed that no one in need was ever turned away. To that end, Roosevelt made certain that indigent patients were supported by a Patients’ Aid Fund he had established. When that fund was depleted, he asked the bills of those patients who could not afford the cost be sent directly to him for payment. Excellent Warm Springs association.
