Vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 steel engraving, signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Mrs. Mary Talbot, in grateful memory of her son, Ralph Talbot. Franklin D. Roosevelt.” In fine condition, with a few light creases, mild, mostly uniform toning, lightly chipped corners and a paperclip impression at the top border. A desirable item sent to mother of the young lieutenant who, during World War I, became the first Marine Corps aviator to be awarded the Medal of Honor. It’s possible it was given to Talbot during the construction or commissioning of the USS Ralph Talbot, a US Navy destroyer.
