TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Assistant Secretary of the Navy letterhead, July 29, 1920. Letter to William M. Cameron, in full: "I greatly appreciate your kind letter of congratulations, and am glad to know that you are satisfied with the action taken at the Convention. Governor Cox and I are going to carry the issues direct to the people, and from present prospects there does not seem to be any doubt as to the result in November." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and an Underwood & Underwood press photo of FDR accepting the Democratic nomination for vice president; photo is creased and has a few small tears. Contrary to the expectations expressed here, the Cox-Roosevelt ticket was defeated by Republicans Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge in the presidential election by a wide margin.
