DS as president, one page, 9.75 x 11.75, May 11, 1935. An official letter of state to the President of Bolivia, Jose Luis Tejada Sorzano. In full: “I have received the letter of the 1st of December last, in which Your Excellency announced your assumption of the Presidency of the Republic of Bolivia, and your entrance upon the duties of the office. I cordially reciprocate the sentiments you express for the continuance of the friendly relations existing between the United States of America and Bolivia, and I assure Your Excellency of my best wishes for your personal welfare and for the prosperity of the Republic over which you have been called to preside.” A central horizontal fold, vertical fold near right side, and some scattered light creases and wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. José Luis Tejada Sorzano was installed by the military as president of Bolivia during the Chaco War, after the military overthrow of President Salamanca. Tejada would be removed from office almost exactly one year later for his ineffectiveness. An eloquent letter from early in Roosevelt’s historic administration.
