World War II-dated TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, September 27, 1943. Letter to notable Texas politician Maury Maverick of the War Production Board, in full: "I am perfectly delighted to have those medals and for the five children. They should be A.R.B. (Anna Roosevelt Boettiger), J.R. (James Roosevelt), E.R. (Elliott Roosevelt), F.D.R., Jr. (Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr.), and J.A.R. (John A. Roosevelt)." In fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corner. An uncommon letter from President Roosevelt mentioning his five surviving children; Eleanor and FDR’s second son, Franklin, died in infancy. Maury Maverick (1895-1954) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives who also served as the Mayor of San Antonio. He is best remembered for his independence from the party and for coining the term ‘gobbledygook’ for obscure and euphemistic bureaucratic language.
