Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed 1933 Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed
Franklin D. Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed in full as president. One page, 7" x 8.75", White House letterhead, Washington, January 3, 1933 [sic], to Edward Stern. Interestingly, this letter is mis-dated. Roosevelt was not yet president on the date typed on this letter but based on the included envelope's postmark, it was actually written in 1934. Apparently the typist was still in the habit of typing 1933 early in the new year (I know I do that each year!). Roosevelt writes, in full: "My dear Mr. Stern: I want to thank you for presenting me with the set of proof copies from the plates of the book you are compiling. As a fellow collector, I wish you every success. Very sincerely yours,". The book referred to is History of the "Free Franking" of Mail in the United States which was published in 1936 and this letter was reproduced on page 204 of that work. It is well known that FDR was an avid stamp collector. Very Fine condition; one mailing fold; original envelope included. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
