This is indeed a very unusual Luger pistol with little documented facts on it's history. This pistol is a early 1920s era commercial Luger as manufactured by the DWM factory, that has been rebarreled and reproofed in 7.65mm. The barrel extension is stamped in small letters; "FRANKENSCHLOSS- SUHL" and the top of the chamber area has been marked with the "Lithuanian Crest" (actually referred to as the Gate of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania) as seen the Lithuanian contract Browning High Power pistols. The theory on these very unusual or rare Lugers is that they were actually early commercial lugers that were purchased or owned by the small Baltic country of Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, (prior to being taken over by Russia) . The Lithuanian government issued a contract to the small shop of Frankenschloss in Suhl, German in the providence of Thüringen to rework or rebarrel these in the late 1930s or early 1940s. There is no documented proof on this theory, however several have been reported over the years, with the story being that they were liberated during the post Cold War years from Lithuanian Border Guards. The actual Luger is marked with the large Lithuanian Crest on top of the chamber area, with the standard DWM toggle markings. The left side of the barrel extension has a single "Crown/N" commercial proof mark with the right side marked with, "FRANKENSCHLOSS- SUHL" next to an "Eagle/N" proof mark. The underside of the barrel is marked with an "Eagle/N" and "Eagle/J" proof marks next to "CAL. 7,65". The left side of the breech block and toggle assembly are both stamped with a single "Crown/N" proof and the right side is stamped with a "Eagle/N" proof. The front of the frame has the early serial number of (837) with the various small parts marked with the last two digits (37) marked in a commercial manner, on the underside of the side plate and take-down lever, with no barrel or barrel extension numbers, with the breech block and toggle assembly numbered but not the firing pin. It is fitted with the standard checkered walnut grips both of which have a three digit number, but not matching. The pistol has one nickel plated magazine with the wooden base which is unmarked. A very unusual Luger pistol.
