Frank Wesson two trigger rifle, second type with manual extractor rod on right side of barrel, .38 cal., 24” octagon barrel, blue finish, wood stock, #8874 in overall very good to near fine condition showing the majority of its original blue on thebarrel, approx. 25% original blue on the receiver with the balance gone to a brown patina and some areas of light spotty erosion and pinprick pitting; the action is crisp, the markings are good and the bore is very good; the wood buttstock is also very good with considerable original finish; there are scattered old dings and mars from storage with more on the left side of the stock and a pronounced old longitudinal ding and scratch mark from the rear of the tang tapering to the butt plate. This second type Wesson rifle was made circa mid-1860’s to mid-1870’s in a quantity of only about 5,000 per Flayderman’s; it was popular on the frontier and this one is uncleaned and the way true collectors like to find them!
