TLS signed “Frank,” two pages, 8 x 10, personal letterhead, September 23, 1954. Letter to John Harding, in full: "I cannot seem to get the point across to Myers that, first of all the incident with B.E.A., at which you were present was highly exaggerated and that I did not make any scene, I merely made a statement, quote: 'If I can possibly help it, I'll not fly this Airline any more.' Now, John, you know goddamned well that we were absolutely right in our complaint to the Airline. I admit that we were a few minutes late, however the airplane was still at the ramp and they could have allowed us to board. But they didn't, so I thought it was rather poor treatment. That's number one. Number two—the Palm Springs incident. This particular episode only concerned my wife and myself, so I do not wish to discuss it in an English court or any other court. I started this letter by saying I couldn't get my point across, and my point is, John, that I am not on trial. Mills is the one who's being tried for defaming my character. I very well understand what Myers is driving at in view of the fact that Mills lawyer could conceivably bring these points up. However, assuming this, Myers should certainly be able to have these particular inferences struck out, purely on the basis that I am not on trial. So will you please, for God's sake, tell him forget them and concentrate on the basic case. Please discuss this with him as soon as possible and if you wish, you may even show him this letter. Our ruse of my coming to England is working out perfectly, not only in British publications but also in newspapers over here. But I needn't tell you that I don't think there's a chance of my being present at the time of trial. By the way, when is it? My best to Muriel, take care and write me soon." In very good to fine condition, with several horizontal folds, and toning and wear to the edges. Harding was the general manager of the National Sporting Club in London, and also acted as an agent in the UK for numerous Hollywood movie stars, such as Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Tony Curtis, and Janet Leigh.
