Frank Robbins, Frank Springer, and Bill J. White - Original Art for The Invaders #16, page 17 (Marvel, 1977). For his story "The Short, Happy Life of Major Victory," former Alter-ego editor Roy Thomas recruited his old art editor and friend Bill J. White (aka Biljo) to provide the pencils for an "origin" sequence depicting Major Victory in the pages of his own comic book, being read by the similarly-origined Captain America. Cartoony, yet dynamic, the style was very familiar to readers of '60s fanzines like Komix Illustrated and Star-Studded Comics, where Biljo did his best work. This page from The Invaders is virtually the only work Bill did for either of the "Big Two" publishers, and is a prize for any fan of comic fandom. The Biljo art was produced on a separate sheet of paper which has been taped onto the larger board; the surrounding head and hands of Captain America were drawn by regular penciller Frank Robbins, and the entire page was inked by Frank Springer for a cohesive look. 10.5" x 16".
