This set of matching console style planters is a love! Designed by Frank Moreno Pottery as centerpiece dishes, they are 1940s vintage.<p>

They both are oval in shape. One planter measures 11 3/4 inches x 6 1/4 inches by 3 inches high. The smaller is 7 x 4 1/2 by 2 5/8 inches high. They sport a lobed scalloped design. Both are glazed in eye-catching shiny black glaze!<p>

The bottom of the larger planter is marked with an incised "FRANK MORENO" as well as with a florist stamp. The bottom also shows some superficial scratches to the glaze. The inside of the smaller bowl shows bubbles from the manufacturing process.<p>

They are in excellent condition.<p>

These will make a vivid contribution to a California pottery collection!<p>

Frank Moreno Pottery, a successful Southern California pottery, was in operation between the 1940s and the 1960s. Frank Moreno pottery, characterized by bright, vivid glazes, is highly desirable.<p>

Frank Moreno descended from a Frank E. Brown. Brown, who named who named Moreno Valley in California, went broke around 1900. Frank Moreno changed his original surname of Brown to Moreno, which, in Spanish, means "brown."<p>

Moreno threw each piece of pottery on a homemade wheel and fired it in a kiln. He marked his early pottery by hand with "Frank Moreno" or "Moreno" in capital letters. He marked his later pieces in the same fashion as "Frank Moreno Ceramics". Later, as he developed arthritis, Moreno used molds for his pots ...
