American general (1903-1955) best remembered for his command of Merrill’s Marauders in the Burma Campaign of World War II. Hand-addressed and signed Tenth Army Headquarters envelope, 9 x 4, postmarked September 15, 1945, addressed in Merrill’s hand to “Mrs. Frank D. Merrill, Box 111, North Woodstock, N.H.,” and signed above the return address area, “Maj. Gen F. W. Merrill,” and signed again in the lower left, “F. W. Merrill.” In very good condition, with uniform toning, and scattered creasing and soiling, lightly affecting both signatures. Accompanied by a 1945 TLS from Merrill’s wife forwarding the envelope to a collector, as well as the original mailing envelope.
