Decorated Air Force officer who flew combat missions in the European and CBI theaters, who later became a test pilot, and once held the distinction of being ‘the fastest man alive.’ Frank K. Everest’s personally-owned and-worn leather A-2 flight jacket. Jacket is a size 28, and has a manufacturer’s label sewn inside of the collar, which reads, “Type A-2, DWG. No. 30-1415; A. C. Contract…J. A. Dubow Mfg. Co., Chicago, Ill.” Everest’s leather name tag is sewn on the left breast above the impressive 6.5? diameter squadron insignia. Jacket also has two front flap pockets and knitted cuffs and waist. In very good condition, with expected wear, fading, and crazing to leather, as well as a few separations to lining. Accompanied by two vintage lighters: a Zippo with Everest’s name engraved on the top and honoring Bill Holden’s flight, and a Corona USAFF Weapons Center; a copy of Everest’s book, The Fastest Man Alive; as well as an unsigned photo of Everest posing by his X-2 Bell Aircraft. A very personal item from one of aviation’s most distinguished and honored officers.
