This hunting knife was made by Frank J. Richtig of Clarkson, Nebraska. It is 9.25 in. overall length with a 5 in. trailing point blade. It is marked "FJR/ Clarkson/ Neb." on the brass guard left side. The "C" in Clarkson is displaced. The grips are stacked leather with red and brass spacers and a brass butt. Frank Richtig knives are legendary for their toughness and sharpness. Livermore Labs. reverse engineered one of his knives to determine that it had been austempered at 300-400 degrees C. The leather sheath was made by Lawrence leather works of Portland, Oregon another legendary shop since 1857 supplying leather goods to the US cavalry. It is stamped model "7/5"; ( model 7 style with a 5 in. depth). C.1930's-1940's. Richtig knives are known to cut bolts and railroad spikes and still able to cut paper without resharpening.
