The success of the strip lies in Godwin's faithful portrayal of the "Blue Grass" countryside that was rendered in an exceptional style that showcased his turn-of-the-century artistic origins. Fine illustrators such as James Montgomery Flagg and Charles Dana Gibson are apparent influences. This three panel work of art is striking in its volume of pen and brush lines that create distinct values and textures and give such depth to the characters and background areas. This piece measures approximately 6.5" x 19.5" and, with the exception of the missing "...still got..." part of the thought balloon in the middle panel, is in excellent condition. <B>Estimate: $300-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
