Frank Frazetta - Unused Preliminary Illustration for Shock Illustrated #4, "Came the Dawn" (EC, 1954). This preliminary illustration for the "Came the Dawn" story never saw publication in the fourth issue of Shock Illustrated. Frank Frazetta is considered a true contemporary master who has inspired and influenced hundreds of modern comic book, science fiction, and fantasy artists. His original art is at the top of most collectors' wish lists. Frazetta's ability with the ink medium rivals that of the 17th century Dutch masters, and this is a fine example of that skill. His use of large blocks of black ink convey a foreboding sure to infect the quiet repose of the seated man as he listens to the radio next to him. He takes a pause from his pipe and feels the hairs rising on the back of his neck. This artwork measures approximately 12" x 12.5" and has an image area of approximately 6.75" x 6.75".
