Offered here is an incredible illustration, used as a bookplate frontispiece from ERB's "Swords of Mars" (Doubleday Press, 1974), that demonstrates Frazetta's total mastery of light and shadow, composition and dramatic tension. As in all of his work, Frazetta manages to find that exact moment in a scene in which the drama is at its height. Here, it's the moment when one man seems to gain the upper hand over another, while the helpless woman looks on in horror. Tightly rendered, yet loosely composed, this is the work of a true master. With an image area of approximately 8.5" x 6.5" and in perfect condition, this piece, professionally matted and framed, has been signed by the artist in the lower left. <B>Estimate: $12,500-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
