The name alone conjures up fantastic images of heroic characters set against exotic backgrounds that swirl with fluid energy. Many have tried to emulate the "Frazetta line." None have come close. There can only be one master and that title belongs to Frank Frazetta. Certainly, Frazetta has his influences that ultimately come from the romantic system of "high art." Rembrandt, Carravagio and perhaps even Delacroix must have played an important part in his early training under Michael Falanga at the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts. But, in the end Frazetta has made his own distinctive mark which initially captivated the comic industry and ultimately, inevitably, garnered him the respect that he richly deserves from the fine art community. When you look at a Frazetta image you're not bogged down by the exacting attention to photo-realistic detail that others try to render. Which is not to say that Frazetta doesn't deliver detail. He does, however, manages to convey the same information with a minimal amount of effort. That's the difference between an artist and a mere illustrator. While Frazetta is best known for his vibrant paintings and bold inked drawings, his volume of mature works rendered in pencil specifically for the <B>Illustrations Arcanum</B></I> are every bit as delightful to look upon. The soft and sensuous, yet powerfully defiant Frazetta woman is as enthralling as ever. The writhing creature before her creates a horrifying atmosphere of morbid anticipation that will, nevertheless be overcome by its clench-fisted victim. Much has been written about Frank Frazetta. In the end, one needs only to at any of his images to recognize the genius within the man. This wonderful work of art was created on an 18.5" x 24.5" piece of illustration board that has been matted to an overall size of 20" x 27" with an image area of 13"x 19.25". <B>Estimate: $20,000-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
