TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, May 6, 1946. Letter to David Murray, sales manager at Smith and Wesson. In part: “My trip to the Far East has been postponed until late June or early July owing to British and Dutch restrictions in Malaya and the Dutch Indies…It occurred to me that owing to the scarcity of the ‘357’ Magnums you might find some advantage in keeping the gun you are preparing for me right up until I actually need it for the trip…Anyhow I don’t want to push off without it - that’s definite. When I do get the gun would you like to have a photograph of me with it for exploitation purposes? I could easily put on a khaki shirt and one of my jungle helmets and have a picture made …” Buck also adds a handwritten line at the conclusion of the text: “Or I could send back a real jungle picture with the gun, if that would be preferable.” In fine condition, with staple holes to top left, mild edge toning, and a pencil notation to bottom. Accompanied by Buck’s 1945 Smith and Wesson order form, filled out and signed by Buck, ordering a .357 Magnum revolver, with particular sights, finish, and stock, preferring a six-inch barrel. Also included is a carbon of Murray’s response to Buck’s letter. A stellar example of Buck’s showmanship.
