TLS in French, two onionskin pages, 8.25 x 11.75, personal letterhead, January 10, 1980. Letter concerning his book, in full (translated): "I am happy at the thought that the Cinema of the Occupation and Resistance is going to be published in English by your care.

I am not aware of your intentions concerning the choice of a translator but allow me to recommend, just in case, Annette Insdorf who has published last year a book of my work: Francois Truffaut (Twaine Publishers); she is completely bilingual and she teaches French literature at Yale (her personal address in New York: 153 East 57th Street, N.Y. 10022).

When the translator will be chosen, I think this person will have to keep in touch with me because I am available to answer questions. In your letter dated August 10, you regret the lack of text on Children of Paradise. In fact, I found a text from Andre Bazin on this movie but it is very short, since in 1945, the daily newspapers had a very small format because of paper restrictions.

Of course, if you wish, I can send you a copy of this article. However, I plan to publish in 1981 a new collection of Andre Bazin that will cover French cinema ‘from the end of the war to the New Generation’ and concerning therefore Marcel Carne, Rene Clement, Robert Bresson, Jean Cocteau, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Rene Clair, etc…

Let me know if you would like to receive pictures of Andre Bazin to illustrate the book.

At last, if it seems possible to you, I would be happy to receive your edition about Hitchcock by Rohmer and Chabrol.

I take the liberty to send you this letter in French because I have intuition that you can read it perfectly. If I am wrong, I will have the next ones translated.

I am starting a new shooting in a week which will mobilize me until the end of April, but if we keep in correspondence I will always find the time to answer you, eventually on Sunday!” In fine condition.
