Writer, politician, diplomat, and historian (1768–1848) considered the founder of Romanticism in French literature. LS as foreign minister in French, signed “Chateaubriand,” 6.5 x 9.25, October 7, 1823. Letter to the Russian Ambassador Pozzo di Borgo, in full (translated): “I will be entirely at your disposal today, after the reception given by the King. Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my high esteem.” Central vertical and horizontal folds (passing through portions of the signature), scattered spots of soiling, and creasing to left edge, otherwise fine condition. Di Borgo served as a Russian diplomat in Paris for fourteen years, and later on was critical in preventing difficulties with Russia during the revolution of 1830.
