Francis Rotch ALS Boston Tea Party
Francis Rotch Autograph Letter Signed “F Rotch”. Two pages, 7.5” x 12.25”, Surry, August 7, 1816. Francis Rotch was the owner of the ship Dartmouth which had the misfortune to be loaded with tea and in Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773. The Dartmouth was the unwilling participant in the “Boston Tea Party”. While this letter was written by the ship's owner years after the event, this personal letter does mention Boston and tea, but not in the context of the Boston Tea Party. This letter appears to be written to Rotch's daughter and contains the usual family tidings, including a detailed instruction to his daughter on how to properly fold letters. Tipped on to a backing board via the left margin, some staining which only marginally affects text, and the usual fold creases, else very good. A rare autograph. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
