<B>Francis M. Cockrell Collection.</B></I> This lot contains eight autograph letters signed by Francis M. Cockrell. Also included are two images of Cockrell, one a photograph from a book, the other is a drawing clipped from a newspaper or pamphlet. The eight autograph letters signed date from April 1, 1881 to May 3, 1898. In all eight letters he signs himself, "<I>F.M. Cockrell.</B></I>" Francis M. Cockrell was a Confederate military commander as well as a United States Senator from Missouri, he served in this office for five terms. The letters in this collection contain routine content and the majority of them are written on United States Senate letterhead. One letter, dated August, 1881 reads in part, "<I>…When I was captured at Blakely Ala. about dark on April 9, 1865 all my official papers, orders & c. were delivered to my captors and I have not the Scratch of a pen of any orders & c. issued by me in the army…</B></I>" <BR><BR>The letters in this collection are in fine condition on average; usual folds are present; soiling has occurred on the edges of several; signatures all look bold and crisp!
