<td width="100%">
A limited edition signed and numbered cast pewter sculpture titled "Letter To Sarah" by Francis J. Barnum, ca. 1993. The piece depicts the letter written by Sullivan Ballou of Rhode Island to his young wife Sarah shortly after the start of the Civil War so movingly portrayed in "The Civil War Series" by Ken Burns. Barnum's touching sculpture shows Ballou writing his wife from the battlefield on a makeshift desk, at the same time depicting Sarah just after she has read his words. Tragically, at about the same time Sarah received his letter, Sullivan Ballou was killed at the First Battle of Manassas. It is on a hardwood base with a pewter title plate. It is artist signed and is numbered 559 of a total of 707 subscribed issues. It bears the Chilmark gold button of authenticity. This sculpture has been fully subscribed and all molds and casts destroyed. It stands 5 inches tall and the base measures 10 1/2 inches long and 6 1/4 inches wide. Shipping quoted upon sale.
