Though already praised as a master by the town biographer of Haarlem, Ampzing, the young painter's pictures have today become a rarity. Laurens J. Bol speculates that " some of the artist's work has most likely been classified as part of the oeuvre of Pieter Claesz " (Laurens J. Bol, 'Holländische Maler des 17. Jahrhunderts nahe den großen Meistern',1969, p.59).
