France, c. 1825, a coin scale with an equal arm balance with a steel beam measuring 14 cm. in length. The pans are copper and measure 5.3 cm in diameter. There are eight knobbed brass weights from fifty grams down to one gram. A wood slide conceals several fractional weights. Inside the top lid is a printed label with three columns of coin weights in livres and francs as well as some foreign coin weights. The lid lists the maker as Me`canicien. The box is rectangular with squared off corners. The top has a "T"-shaped flat handle. Dim: 16 cm x 7.5 cm x 3.3 cm. Both hasp locks work.    $400
