France, c. 1795, a coin scale with an equal arm balance with a steel beam 13.5 cm. in length. The round pans 5 cm, are copper. The set comes with two sets of nested weights marked on the top edges of the cups is LIVRES on one set and FRANCS on the other. There are two compartments for fractional weights. One lidded compartment houses three fractionals. The other is empty and missing the lid. Inside the top lid is a clear printed label giving the weights in three columns for various current coins. It also lists the maker's name, Hamelin. The oval ended box is 19 cm wide 5.8 cm deep and 2.5 cm thick. Both hasp locks work.    $600
