The edge inscription reads: JEAN CLEAUDE DEPANTHOU. DEPUTÉ AUX ETATS DE BRETAGNEE 1758. En dessus du buste du Roi: COMITIA ARMORICA. The reverse reads: ANGLIS AB AGUILLONIO DUCE PROFLIGATIS Difficult to translate but refers to a defeat of the English. The design is of a central palm tree, with a female representation of France to the left, hanging a tablet on the tree, reading: Virtus Ducis et Milit. (The virtue of the King and the Army). To the right is a male representation of Mars, holding a thunderbolt in his left hand, and also reaching up to the tree, to hang a tablet reading: Virtus Nobil. et pop. arm (The virtues of the Nobility and the armed people). In the exergue: Ad sanctum CATUODUM M. D. CC.LVIII (To the holy? 1758). A Magnificent piece. 137.3 grams, 62 mm. Struck early in the Seven Year's War, with France still optimistic...
