<B>Louis XIV gold Quadruple Thick Double Louis d'Or 1644A, </B></I>Ciani 1783, choice VF-XF with light toning on the reverse. Extremely rare type featuring the King with short hair after a design by Jean Warin. The reverse design includes eight L's in cruciform with crowns at the ends and lis in the angles. The edge is inscribed PONDERE SANTCVARII. Ex: Christies Sale of the Gallia Collection 6 October 1987 lot 247 (where it was graded nearly VF/VF) and the Motte Sale 1951, lot 559, where it brought 270,000 FF.
