Cloth broadside for the business of J.B. Rafferty. Rafferty was a native of Massachusetts and moved to Nevada in the 1860s. He is listed on the voter list for Gold Hill in 1866, but it’s not until 1881 that his name appears again with his marriage announcement. By then he was living and working in Reno. 1884 saw the brief partnership with another wagon manufacturer, it was called Buncel and Rafferty, but that lasted only 6 months. This advertisement must have been before the formation of the business partnership. Frame measures 12” x 14” and the cloth is 8” x 10”. It reads “J.B. Rafferty Manufacturer Of All Kinds of Buggies, Buckboards, Express, Farm, Freight, Header and Quartz Wagons, etc., Constantly On Hand And Made To Order At The Lowest Rates. All Work Warranted! Repairing Done At Short Notice. Hard Wood Lumber for Sale. Shop near L.W. Lee’s Stock Corrall, Corner N. Virginia and 4th Sts., Reno, Nevada.” The cloth has some wear including some stains and fading. Produced by Schardin and Botsford’s in Sacramento [Ref: Ancestry.com]. - Jacobitz Collection -59832
