John James Audubon (1785-1851). Felis Concolor, Linn. The Cougar. Male. [Pl. XCVI]. Drawn from nature by J.J. Audubon. [No place: n.d., circa 1985]. Modern color lithographic reproduction from the Imperial Folio edition of John James Audubon's The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America originally published between 1845 and 1848. The original lithographic version of this print was printed and colored by J. T. Bowen in Philadelphia. Approximate sheet size: 28 x 22 inches. Approximate frame size: 37.5 x 31.5 inches. A fine image of the Cougar from one of the greatest illustrated natural history works to be produced in America during the nineteenth century, probably only surpassed by Audubon's own The Birds of America.

This print is being offered as a high-quality decorative print and has not been examined out of the frame. (It is matted, framed and glazed.)

The Quadrupeds was to be John James Audubon's last work and he enlisted the assistance of his sons in completing the work. It followed the commercially successful octavo edition of his monumental work The Birds of America. A handsome print, in fine condition but for a small repair to the top edge, from America's greatest wildlife artist.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Large (view shipping information)
