Framed American Indian hide painting approx. 18” x 27” overall with frame size approx. 25” x 33”. This hide painting shows an early trading post scene with images including American soldiers identified by officers’hats, trappers identified by hats, canoes-one empty and one with Indian standing in it and nearby turtle swimming, teepees, Indian long houses, barrel, cooking pot, Indians holding rifles, which appear to be flintlocks. There is also a beaded centipede on the lower right which may be an identifying mark for a tribal clan or individual; in overall good condition with some aging, fading and wear; a beautiful piece that is nicely displayed;accompanied by a copy of a 1988 letter from Larry Wendt to Little John’s when we were in the Town & Country shopping center in Orange, CA stating in part that this piece was museum mounted on acid free medium and wasconsigned to Mr. Wendt by the Wheelwright Museum of Santa Fe, NM and according to then Director of the Museum, Edson Way, the piece was originally painted between 1860 and 1875 with the beaded centipede being opined to
