<B>Fractional Currency Shield, With Gray Background.</B></I> This Shield gives an overall impressive appearance. It does not suffer from the water staining so typical of these majestic numismatic items. The white backing is bright for a 140 year old item that has proudly been displayed during its lifetime. The Shield also looks like it is housed in a near-period frame. The brown paper back enclosure and hanging wire are probably of a more recent vintage. About half the notes show ink fading of different degrees and the penmanship on the hand-signed notes shows some fading, too.
