California Fractional Gold 1872 Washington Head. Round Quarter Dollar. BG-818. PCGS graded Mint State 62. <b>Fields are somewhat prooflike and exhibit a touch of rose iridescence. The strike is a bit soft at the centers, typical of the issue, although Washington's hair detail and facial features are quite clear. A few light obverse hairlines horizontally crossing his portrait keeps this important fractional gold issue from a higher classification. Struck by Frontier & Bellemere, this issue is rated as a high Rarity-5, fewer than 46 known in all grades.
