California Fractional Gold 1871 Liberty Head. Octagonal Quarter Dollar. BG-714. PCGS graded Mint State 67. <b>Blazing mint luster provides semi-prooflike reflectivity to the fields, which remain virtually. The strike is meticulous. It is absolutely amazing that this tiny, delicate little jewel could survive totally untouched and brilliant, but this example has. Regarded as a Rarity-5, with fewer than 60 known, certainly, this precious piece is a likely candidate for the finest known BG-714 and the so-called "Broad Head" type.. Breen-Gillio reports this fractional gold quarter to be a product of Frontier & Co., operated in San Francisco. Partners were Pierre Frontier, Augustus Bellemere and Henry Pohlman. Frontier commenced the striking of fractional gold coins in 1864, and struck them continuously until 1878, with several different associates and business names.</b> <p align="center">Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
