Fr. TN-9a Hessler X80A $20 Act of December 26, 18
Fr. TN-9a Hessler X80A $20 Act of December 26, 1814 Treasury Note Extremely Fine. This is the most "common" of the Treasury Notes from the War of 1812 with a rating of R-6, 13 - 30 known, as found in An Illustrated History of U.S. Loans by Gene Hessler. However, an exact census would probably come up with a number in the low teens. This is a signed remainder from plate A that carries the signatures of F.W. McGeary and C.C. Biddle, while the counter signature was never applied. A few large red and blue silk fibers are embedded in the watermarked paper, while the top margin is just outside the frame line. Three vertical and a light lateral fold grace this plate letter A $20 that was born during a critical hour in American history. Here is another great note with its debut in numismatic circles with F.C.C. Boyd, and was purchased by John J. Ford in August 1955. Then it was not offered again at public auction until the October 2004 Ford sale. Only one astute bidder will persevere tonight.
