Fr. TN-1 $1000 Act of June 30, 1812 Treasury Note Ext
Fr. TN-1 $1000 Act of June 30, 1812 Treasury Note Extremely Fine. The War of 1812 brought about our nation's first circulating paper money with this issue that earned 1 1/2 cents a day per $100. This issue of notes is so rare that they were not included in Paper Money of the United States by Robert Friedberg until the last couple of editions. The Friedberg reference mentions that there are only two known notes of this denomination for the June 30, 1812 act, and both of those notes are remainders. A third remainder was recently offered in the October 2004 Ford sale. This lovely note is one of the two Friedberg documented notes, and it has a light lateral center fold, plus two harder folds, with one being lateral and the other being vertical. Also, the edges are healthy and it has escaped pinholes. A small thin spot is noticed as this note is held up to a light. This seems to be a defect in the paper rather than a minor woe of mishandling. An extremely rare note and of the utmost importance for a collector building a collection of these fascinating notes.
