Fr. 96 $10 1869 Legal Tender PMG Uncirculated
Fr. 96 $10 1869 Legal Tender PMG Uncirculated 62. This interesting note is holdered in a PMG Uncirculated 62 encasement. It comes with a reprinted letter written by Bion H. Barnett, who was the founder of Barnett Bank in Jacksonville, FL. The bank started operations as the Bank of Jacksonville (FL) under the guidance of William Boyd Barnett, who was the father of Bion H. Barnett. According to the letter, the first loan made by the Bank of Jacksonville when it opened on May 7, 1877 was to a Mr. C. W. Blew. When due, it was repaid with fifty 1869 $10 Legal Tender Notes. The notes sat undisturbed in the bank's vault for almost seventy years, during which time the bank became the Barnett National Bank. The Rainbow Notes and letters were distributed to the bank directors on May 7, 1947 to commemorate the loan issued seventy years earlier. This amazing piece of banking history comes in an auction where a $50 Brown Back from the National Bank of Jacksonville, the successor to the Bank of Jacksonville and predecessor to the Barnett National Bank of Jacksonville bearing Mr. W.B. Barnett's signature is also offered. This lot would make a neat companion piece to that exceedingly rare note, and would be a highlight in any display of Florida banking history. Bion Barnett passed away in 1958 at the age of 101.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
