Fr. 823 $20 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note CGA Gem Uncirculated 65. This Serial Number 1 Twenty Doll
Fr. 823 $20 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note CGA Gem Uncirculated 65. This Serial Number 1 Twenty Dollar Federal Reserve Bank Note is the only known #1 example of its type. And in fact, it is the only $20 Federal Reserve Bank Note from any district with a serial number of fewer than three digits. The second-lowest known example is a serial number 245 also from Atlanta, with the Teehee-Burke signature combination. Other than that note, the next-lowest example is serial number 493 from the St. Louis district. The presently offered serial number 1 note has been auctioned several times as an uncirculated example, and our recollection from having seen it twice before it became holdered by CGA is that it certainly is. The note was called an AU in 1946 when it was sold by Barney Bluestone, and it is listed as an AU in Martin Gengerke's United States Paper Money Records, apparently based on Bluestone's original grade. The note is broadly margined, beautifully bright and very well centered on both sides. It likely will always remain the only #1 Federal Reserve Bank Note and might well surpass its own previous record price of $60,500 when it last sold three years ago. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
