<B>Fr. 54 $2 1880 Legal Tender PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ.</B></I> This number is one of the very rarest of the lower-denomination Legals. Only nineteen examples are listed in the Track & Price census including this note, which is listed there without a known grade. The known grade, as it turns out, places the note far up in the top half of the condition census for the nineteen pieces. It's a solid Choice XF that bears PMG's important "Exceptional Paper Quality," comment. Only two third-party graded 54's have reached the auction market: a PCGS 58, which realized $23,000 in October of 2005, and a PMG 20 which we sold in September of 2007 for $9775. This note, falling right in between them, will likely realize a price right in between.<BR><I>From The Thomas M.
