<B>Fr. 49 $2 1878 Legal Tender PMG Very Fine 25.</B></I> Fr. 49 has always been one of the classic rarities of the Legal Tender series. Only sixteen examples are known in all grades combined. The two major grading services have graded only a total of six, the best of which is a PMG 30, with this note falling right behind it at 25. This piece is new to the census, having been acquired by Tom long before the bean counters turned their attention to currency. The note has the visual appearance of a full XF, with no circulation soil and no problems of any kind. The most recent VF 25 to sell was a PCGS in 2005, which realized $16,100. The finest graded example, a PMG 30, sold in Bowers & Merena's March 2007 auction for over $38,000. This note is certainly the equal of that in its visual appeal and should realize in that same area.<BR><I>From The Thomas M.
