Fr. 378 $100 1891 Treasury Note Very Fine. One of the rarest major types in all of U.S. Currency, with only an even dozen examples known, five of which are permanently impounded in Federal Reserve Banks, the Smithsonian, and the ANA Money Museum. The only high grade piece resides in the Smithsonian. This example is extraordinarily margined with extra eye appeal for the grade and only a hint of soil. It was previously the Andrew Shiva piece and it auctioned in 1995 at the sale of his collection for $33,000. Jim O'Neal acquired it in March 2001 for, what will now prove to be, a bargain price of $55,000.
