<B>Fr. 376 $50 1891 Treasury Note Choice New.</B></I> Most collectors have never seen, let alone had the opportunity to own, a Seward Treasury Note in any grade. Only twenty-one examples of this one-number type are known to exist, and of those, five are permanently impounded in museum or government hands. Of the sixteen remaining notes, a number have been off the market for decades. This beautiful note would clearly be a highly desirable piece with even an ordinary serial number, but it is one of the five single digit examples known: B2. Serial number 1 is in the ANA Museum, this note last sold in Lyn Knight's March 2001 sale for $198,000, and serial numbers 3 and 8 are both in the Smithsonian Institution, and the serial number 7 note sold at auction in 1998 for $170,500. This gorgeous example has all its original bright ink colors, and attractive, untoned paper.
