Fr. 361 $5 1890 Treasury Note CGA Gem Uncirculate
Fr. 361 $5 1890 Treasury Note CGA Gem Uncirculated 66. This is the first note from a lovely cut sheet of 1890 Treasury $5's. The A and D position notes have been graded 66 by CGA, and the B and C notes have been graded 65. This is a very tough type to find in even consecutive pieces, let alone an intact cut sheet. All four notes share a photographic-like sharpness that is particularly noticeable - both on the elaborate Victorian era backs, and on the vignette of General George Thomas, who many people consider to be one of the most underrated of all Civil War generals. In his time, he was known as "The Rock of Chicamauga" for his steadfast roll in that pivotal Civil War battle. For some reason over the years, his fame subsided as lesser generals became legends.
