<B>Fr. 353 $2 1890 Treasury Note Fine.</B></I> The Deuce for this issue carries the portrait of Union Major General James Birdseye McPherson, who was killed in action by Confederate pickets during the Battle of Atlanta. There is a street named for McPherson in Atlanta with a marker near where he fell. McPherson was the highest-ranking officer in the Union Army to be killed in battle during the Civil War.
