Fr. 335 $50 1891 Silver Certificate Very Fine. A handsome example of this popular one-number type that bears the portrait of Edward Everett. Everett was the valedictorian of his class of 1811 at Harvard University, served in Congress from 1825-1836 and the United States Senate in 1852-1853. He was also Governor of Massachusetts from 1836-1839 and the Vice Presidential candidate on the Constitutional Union ticket in the election of 1860. He is perhaps most often mentioned in historical accounts of his era, however, as the featured keynote speaker at the 1863 dedication of Gettysburg National Cemetery, where his two-hour oration was followed by a few brief remarks delivered by President Abraham Lincoln. Tonight's example is problem free for the grade, but for a tiny and easily overlooked margin separation at bottom, and retains a very considerable degree of original paper body to compliment its well balanced margins.
