Fr. 322 $20 1891 Silver Certificate Fine. Fr. 322 is by far the scarcer of this two number Friedberg type. There are just about 100 examples known compared with solidly over 200 for the Fr. 321. This Daniel Manning note has been able to escape the depredations of pinholes and tears. Manning began his political career as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1876 and served as Chairman of the New York Democratic Party from 1882-1884, before his appointment as Secretary of the Treasury in 1885, an office he held until 1887 in the administration of President Grover Cleveland. He rests in an impressive crypt not far from the South entrance to Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, NY, a bucolic stroll from the gravesite of Republican President Chester Alan Arthur, a graduate of Union College in nearby Schenectady, also the alma mater of William Seward, Secretary of State under President Abraham Lincoln.
